Garfield Golden Grads News
Two newsletters will be mailed each year to members. The Garfield Messenger is responsible for the design and graphics of that newsletter as well as sharing student articles. You can also expect President’s letters emailed 4-6 times per year. Got a story for the newsletter? Submit your article, news, book review, or anecdote about Garfield, or send an interesting tidbit, sports news, and so on. Share the stories and news! Please make sure it is no more than 500 words and is about Garfield and those who have attended. Send it and any photos with your name and email address to Pat Mouton, Web Manager, at gggwebsite1964@gmail.com. Submission means you agree to have your work published.
For complete Guidelines for submitting news, click here on the Newsletter Guidelines.
Subscribe to The Messenger!
Garfield’s Messenger has been in existence since 1922. Currently under faculty advisor Mr. Tim Zimmerman, its staff has about 35 students. The Messenger reaches a diverse population of over 2000 students, faculty, parents, community members, and friends and family of students. It provides Garfield High School and the community news, information on what is going on, entertainment, and more.
Challenged by the pandemic and budget cuts, The Messenger is fighting for survival. To sustain itself, please subscribe to this twice-a-month newsletter. In addition to subscriptions, donations are a much-needed source of revenue.
- How to donate: Visit The Messenger website. Alternatively, you may find it easier to write a check to Garfield Golden Grads and specify a donation to the Messenger. Then mail it directly to our Treasurer Ralph Walker. If you don’t have his address, you can call him at 425-208-1785.
- How to subscribe: Contact garfieldmessenger@gmail.com.
Let’s support our Bulldogs!
GGG has developed a partnership with The Messenger. They are currently doing the designing, editing, and graphics for our Newsletters. Messenger staff are also writing two articles for each of our Newsletters, this year. We also have an opportunity to promote GGG in The Messenger by placing an ad. The Messenger staff has been instrumental in helping locate students who would be willing to help us with some of our current GGG needs.
Other Publications
For 100 years, Garfield High School students have proudly produced and published our beloved Annual: The Arrow. GGG has collected copies of The Arrow from most years, but we are still missing copies from these years:
- 1940 and 1949
- 1961-72
We also welcome copies of the Garfield literary publication, the Garfield Pen.
Thank you to the many people who have donated to our collection! If you have any Arrows or Pens to donate (or if you wish to purchase any extra copies we may have), contact Historian Lana Finegold at lanafinegold [@] msn [dot] com.
The final issue of the GGG Gazette was published in October 2023 and mailed to all members whose dues were up to date. Click here for the history of the Gazette. If you would like to see a Gazette from 2015, click here to download it.
