News from Mike Fuson and Bruce Fisher (class of 62)

Hello from the San Francisco Bay Area. Mike Fuson ’62 and Bruce Fisher ’62 checking in. We were good friends at Garfield and have remained good friends ever since. Our homes have been in the Bay Area for over 50 years; and we continue to see each other every few weeks.

Mike has been married to Peggy Iwasaki ’62 for over 60 years. He had a long career in local government, including being City Manager in Sausalito, Pismo Beach, and Sonoma from which he retired in 2007. Prior to retiring at the same time as Mike, Peggy was a graphic designer for several non-profits and companies.

Bruce and his wife, Marlene Litvak, Lowell High School’66 (San Francisco), have been together for 55 years. Bruce, an attorney, was first a partner in a national consulting firm and then had a long career as the Executive Director of a large non-profit serving at-risk youth in San Francisco and Marin Counties. Bruce retired in 2014. Marlene, also an attorney, retired in 2015 after a long tenure as General Counsel to a multi-national company in the tech industry.

In recent years, we have stayed in touch remotely with several classmates, including Tom Mathers, Jacquie Kay, Diane Deskins Hastert, and Doug Palmer.

We’re lucky and thankful that our children live in the Bay Area and that we’re able to spend plenty of time with grandkids (Bruce and Marlene have 2 daughters and 2 grandkids; Mike and Peggy have 2 sons and 5 grandkids).

Our favorite TV series of recent years is, of course, “Death by Lightning.” If you haven’t seen it, we both suggest you do. It is the story of how James GARFIELD became President and was, soon after, assassinated by a mentally disturbed follower. The series shows Garfield as a man of high character and strong moral values. Another reason to be proud of Garfield High.
